Join Marine Science Institute at Naples, Florida!

Naples Sea Lab Camp will run from June 12th to July 28th, 2023. The goal is to raise the awareness of the marine environment in SWFL. We will accomplish this as we teach students about the local marine life in the midst of hands-on experiences in the field.

There will be a theme each week so that students can learn about a variety of marine life as they sign up for multiple weeks during the summer. The themes for the various weeks are as follows:

Weekly Schedule:

A typical week will consist of the following:

  • Monday 
    • Ice breakers
    • Discuss the week and objectives
    • Introduction to marine biology and world oceans
    • Field journal introduction and data keeping while becoming a “Marine Biologist in Training”
    • Introduction to research and choosing a project
    • Squid dissection
    • Various SWFL marine ecosystems
    • Introduce Seacrest sustainability projects
  • Tuesday & Thursday
    • In the field to study
    • Observation in the field
    • Write and sketch data from the field
    • Open waterfront and swimming (depending on which location)
    • Kayak tours (depending on week and location)
  • Wednesday
    • Discuss and analyze data from previous day
    • Begin research project
    • Fun educational games such as Orca relay on plastic pollution and Turtle Hurdles on life cycle and limiting factors
    • Discussion on solution based plastics and pollution in the sea
    • Breakout groups in sustainability at Seacrest
  • Friday
    • Discuss and analyze data from previous day
    • Work on research project completion
    • Ocean craft project
    • Marine Biology careers & local partners
    • Thematic discussion on this weeks marine life
    • Presentations
    • End of week party

    • Garden Canopy area
    • Marine Science room
  • Various locations will be used for field trips depending on the theme for the week
    • Baker Park
    • Naples Beach
      • Different locations depending on turtle nesting spots and other factors.
    • Gordon River Parkway
    • Bayview Park
    • Clam Pass Beach

Hours of camp:

  • 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
    • Before and after school care will be available for an additional fee. These hours are from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm.
